It's Dior, Darling

My family is here! My family is here! YAY!

Sorry I haven't had time to blog lately, because I have been so I wasn't sure what I was going to say because honestly it's weird blogging about a family vacay (haha), but a lot of the stuff we have been doing is educational and centered around art/design I figured it would be nice to share some of the highlights with y'all!

Sunday's are for Flea Markets and Dior

We spent first half of our day wandering through streets of the flea market and I felt like a true Parisian when I was able to point out some of the vendors I had met the week before! I think this is a place everyone should go multiple times, because there is just so much to see. You find things you didn't even know you a rack of vintage Chanel jackets or a wall of taxidermy animals.

DIOR. EXHIBIT. #burymeindior

Before I say anything else I want to let y'all know this was one of the best exhibits I've ever seen! The Dior, Couturier des Reves (Designer of Dreams) is just breathtaking...There are over 300 couture gowns that stretch from the beginning in 1947 to currently in 2017. However, this is not just a hallway filled with pretty dresses, but an entire wing of the Louvre challenging the preconceived idea that to be "fashionable" you must own the latest and greatest clothing. But here, you notice pieces from the 50's next to something from last season and they are both beautiful! The garments Dior created are timeless, and led me to consider what I could change in my buying habits to be a smarter consumer. AKA: Looking for items that will last longer than one weekend out in Austin!

The exhibit includes the history of each designer, major moments for the house, real time demonstrations of how the pieces are made in the atelier, and many other incredible details. It could be quite overwhelming with all these items on display, but the curators have organized it in such a way that the garments take on a life of their own in the exhibit and the information is presented easily so that everyone can learn!!

Tips to have the best experience at the Exhibit (applicable to any museum)

  1. Get tickets beforehand so you can skip the long line!! wooo!

  2. Take a chill pill, because it is probably going to be crowded and there are ALWAYS pushy annoying people at any museum lol

  3. Buy the book because it is amazing! Super heavy, but worth any arm pain or extra weight fees I might have on the way back!

Thanks for checking in and I can't wait to share some more amazing moments with y'all soon!
